Abba Alhaji Kyari (born 17 March 1975) is a Nigerian police officer who is a Deputy Commissioner of Police, He is married with 5 kids and currently on suspension and relieved from all police duties pending the outcome of an internal investigation into his alleged connection with Gucci King, popular alleged fraudster Ramon Abbas “Hushpuppi”.

He is a member of International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP). Prior to his appointment as IGP-IRT, he has served at Lagos State Police Command as a unit Commander in one of the PMF base located in Lagos before he was promoted and transferred to serve as the Officer-In-Charge of the dis-banded SARS.


Abba was admitted into Police Academy Wudil, Kano State in 2000, he graduated as cadet Assistance Superintendent of Police (ASP) and was posted to Adamawa State Police Command for his one-year mandatory attachment in Song Police Division.

He also graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geography from University of Maiduguri in 1997.
He did his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Akwa Ibom State in 1998 and joined the Nigeria Police Force as Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 2000.
After completing his training in the Police Academy Wudil Kano, Kyari was posted to Adamawa State where he served in Song, Girei and Numan Local Govt. Area with remarkable success in crime bursting.
He stood out when he led the arrest of a notorious armed robber called, ‘Ndagi’ a.k.a Spirit. Spirit held Numan, the third biggest town in Adamawa State hostage for several years before his eventual arrest. From then, there was no looking back for this intelligent officer with a sharp investigative mind and sometimes deadly courage.
Kyari joined the Police Mobile Force, popularly known as Mopol in 2005 and was there for about five years until his posting to Lagos Command October in 2010. He was deployed as the second in command (2/IC) to SARS and later became the OC SARS on January 15, 2011.
Kyari was promoted specially to Deputy Commissioner of Police in 2018. A well deserved form of encouragement to service delivery from the Inspector General of Police and the Police Service Commission.

On August 1, 2021, the Inspector General of Police announced the suspension of Abba Kyari from duty pending the determination of investigation of his involvement in the Hushpuppi fraud. In December 2021, the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, submitted the probe panel report on Kyari to the Police Service Commission.

Cocaine Deal Allegation

On 14 February 2022, a video clip of Kyari was exposed where he negotiated the release of some quantity of seized 25 kg cocaine, and offered $61, 400 cash. On Monday 7th March, 2022, Abba Kyari and 6 others were arraigned by the NDLEA on several charges bordering on conspiracy, obstruction and dealing in cocaine. However, the former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari and 4 others who are police officers as well, pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them by the anti-narcotics agency.
